On my list these days are these three thrilling TV shows that are ridiculously riveting and at times, guiltily hilarious. My main pet peeve though, is that I can’t binge watch as episodes are released every week. Blech!
Billions
Sundays at 10PM ET/PT on Showtime
I found this show when it was already at the end of Season 2 so good for me right? Lots of binging! I found season one a bit, meh, and many characters pissed me off, but I gave season 2 a chance. And it redeemed itself! It’s a Tom and Jerry sorta show where the two leads, Bobby Axelrod and Chuck Rhodes are trying to bring each other down. Even if as they say, cut off their own nose to spite their face. Bobby is a billionaire investment genius who rose up from nothing and Chuck is a law enforcement radical who came from lots of wealth. They have a joint love for, and forever bickers about, Wendy Rhodes who is Chuck’s wife and also the in-house psychologist at Bobby’s firm (trust me, they need it).
I’m not going to sell out too much but I’d say this much, the lengths and breadths to which these men go to bring down each other, makes you agitated with anticipation. And boy oh boy, whoever you’re rooting for, I guarantee you, you will jump with praises. Because they both keep winning (and oh man, losing BIG)!
The Good Fight
Streams on Sundays on CBS All Access
This is The Good Wife with the added touch of comedy we all needed. Every Sunday I watch and hurl obscenities at the TV because the episode finished and there is no other to watch until next week. If you watched The Good Wife, you’d recognize some of the characters in this quirky and sometimes sinister spin-off. This legal drama has a lot more people of color as cast members and a lot of more women in lead roles (yes please!). So if you’re into that kinda thing, you should make haste. Lol.
It’s mainly about Diane Lockhart finding her way around the legal profession and life in this new phase of her life. There are several legit side stories that I must admit, I look forward to more than the main story itself. It’s very serious at times, always addresses scenarios that can and in many cases, actually happens in real life and will have you whispering ‘wtf’ to yourself more than you’d like to admit. To me though, the dry and sarcastic humor is what gives it the edge.
The Americans
Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX
This one is on its sixth and final season (sigh) and is as intense as intense can get. This couple, Elizabeth and Phillip Jennings have a cute little family, with the sweetest travel agency and the average suburban American life. One thing though, they’re Russian spies working for the kremlin in the 1980s. This show is intense and will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I urge you to take a look and see. It is both reassuring and frightening at the same time and makes you question A LOT especially with everything going on politically in the US. I’m always asking my husband, ‘could this really have been for real? Did they really do these things?’
What fosters my love for this show is the human element that they never let us forget, even when caught up in the throngs of callousness that was the KGB. I’m so sad to see it leave.
Tell me, what would you say are your favorite thrilling TV shows right now?
Thanks for stopping by!
