So in case you’ve been in a cocoon somewhere, you’d know that I’m on my way to a little weekend getaway pretty soon. I mean, I’ve only been talking about it morning noon AND night all over social media. This is my first trip in exactly one year and for me, being grounded for that long is just, no. Unacceptable. Simply because traveling is my passion! Without it I’m just some grumpy ole hag. And I’m being serious.
So while packing today, I referenced my packing lists over the years to make sure I got everything and I noticed that there are some things that are on every single list. I won’t go so far to say they’ll make or break my trip, but for sure they make it a whole lot more enjoyable. So without further ado, here’s a list of my five weekend getaway must haves.
A Good Moisturizer
This seems trivial, but trust me on this one. Regardless of the climate and weather you’re in, a well performing moisturizer is a must. If there’s anything from my entire skin care routine that goes with me, it’s my moisturizer. Your skin will thank you for it. Nothing feels better than crashing in your hotel room after a long day or night, washing your face and slathering it with a soothing and rejuvenating lotion. My picks are always gels because my skin loves them more and they feel like a super quenching cold glass of water being dashed on my face. In a good way. LOL.
Something To Take Pictures
Be it a camera or a phone. Make sure you have something to capture those memories. I find myself saying “oh I want to live in the moment, let me put this camera away” but I take lots of photos nonetheless because you know what? Months and even years later when my computer or TV is idling and my screensaver randomly pulls photos from my travel albums, all those memories come rushing back. And I love it!
Comfortable Shoes
I shouldn’t have to say this but I speak from experience. Uncomfortable shoes can ruin your life. For the fashionistas out there (because I am so not one) you can be fashionable and comfy at the same time. I do loads of research to make sure the shoes I’m gonna be wearing suits all of the weather and terrain and all that good stuff. Leave it up to me and we’d all be wearing Crocs and compression socks, but um, yeah, they’re not always so cute. Don’t be 20 year old me in England during the Fall wearing sandals, at night. It was NOT fun. Trust I.
Filling Snacks
Yes. Snacks. What’s life without ’em? When you’re on the road for hours on end or trapped in the Louvre (ok can you even eat in there?), a snack’ll come in real handy real quick. And make sure they’re filling. Leave potato chips at home. They’re airy and does nothing to curb that hunger pang. Instead take along granola mixes, scones, oat cookies or something you love that can hold you ’til your next meal.
A Plan
Spontaneous travel is awesome but having even an ounce of a plan can make a world of difference. An itinerary filled with time slots and appointments are not necessary but at least having an idea of what you want to do, saves you loads of time. Early 20s La Shell was a spontaneous traveler with no plan and I have no regrets. But but but…. Mid 30s La Shell never not has a plan and travel is so so so much better. No wasting time looking up opening times for the theatre or looking for bus routes. Have these things down and it’s just to grab your wallet and go.
So tell me, what are your travel must haves when you’re up for a weekend getaway?
Thanks for stopping by!
