So apparently turmeric tea is an age old drink that is massively popular around these parts nowadays. I for some reason have never heard of any turmeric drink of any kind. No idea what rock I’ve been living under, but I stumbled upon this cup of goodness while rummaging around on Pinterest and decided to give it a try. I’ve heard the benefits of turmeric are endless!
Now, when I hear turmeric, I think of Asian food (which I love), but can’t really picture it in a drink. I pretty much fall for any hot drink, so I’d say curiosity got the best of me with this one. I mean, how bad could it be?
Turmeric is not something that I normally use in my cooking, but I think that might change. While doing some research, I learned early on that turmeric has a multitude of benefits which includes aiding weight loss, healthy hair and skin and anti-aging. Mix it with warm milk and some spices and voila! You have the perfect comfort food! It’s a new favorite.
There are several variations of this drink, but the richer and thicker, the better for me. So I made mine as a latte. And I made the right choice. It was just, decadent!
Golden Almond and Turmeric Latte Recipe
Total time: 10 Minutes || Yield: 2 small lattes
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups Almond Milk
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 small cinnamon stick or 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
- Pinch of freshly grated ginger
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1/2 tsp sweetener (I used coconut sugar.)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Blend all ingredients except the cinnamon sticks(if you are using the powder, blend it with other ingredients) until smooth. Pour into saucepan and add cinnamon sticks. Heat for 3 minutes or until hot on medium heat. Don’t boil. Drink immediately. I had some a little later and it wasn’t as good as when it just came off of the fire.
**Turmeric stains (it will fade over time), so be mindful. I only drink this in dark colored cups or bowls. These are my favs!
