For someone who has quite a bit of makeup, I wear the same face on most days. My mantra for makeup and beauty, is that less is more. Especially for my morning makeup routine. I prefer to keep it sweet and simple as much as possible. I have a full time job (that is at least one hour away with no traffic) that I need to get to by 8am so I have limited time to play around on mornings.
To add to that, I’m not the chirpiest morning person around so most times I dash out of bed and into the shower, put on some face stuff, semi comb my hair and bolt out the door. At most it’s 45 minutes from rise to ready.
This makeup routine doesn’t pop my budget or my time as it’s quite quick and pretty much foolproof. Here’s my ritual!
Complexion
With my morning skincare routine out of the way, I begin with priming only my upper cheek, nose and forehead areas as my T-zone is a shiny spot. Then I apply my favorite foundation and powder on top. I use Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Stay-in-Place foundation as it’s very easy to build and blend, keeps me matte but luminous all day and doesn’t transfer. I set my foundation with MAC’s Mineralized Skin Finish Natural powder as it sets the foundation and adds a bit of glow to the face. This powder gives sheer coverage and coupled with the foundation, polishes me skin beautifully.
Eyes
For my eyes, I keep it neutral and simple. I spend very little time on brows as I want to them to look natural. These MAC brow liners fill them in really well. I then apply liquid liner to the top and for that I use any liner that I can come across. Falsies are not normally a part of my morning makeup routine as Maybelline Falsies Mascara does a really good job of lengthening and thickening my lashes all on its own. If I have extra time, I may apply eyeshadow, but I keep them matte and use different shades of brown. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette and Urban Decay’s Naked Original Palettes are ideal for that.
Cheeks
If I’m stuck on an island with the choice of only two make-up items, give me blush and mascara. I don’t go a day without these two. My favorite blushes are from the indie brand La Femme as they are affordable, satisfyingly pigmented, easy to apply and blend, has a wide variety of shades and stays on for a really really long time. I mostly stick to coral and subtle pink. I do not contour and highlight on an everyday basis.
Lips
I apply this Neutrogena lip balm and a subtle lipstick. I tend to stick with actual lipsticks because I can’t seem to find a liquid lipstick that doesn’t dry my lips out. Reapplying every couple hours is annoying so I don’t do lipgloss. My favorite lipstick brand is Wet n Wild, the Megalast line. They stay put and I hardly ever need to reapply. I stick to a pinky brown and a reddish brown.
And that’s it! You’d realize my routine doesn’t have setting spray and concealer etc because I don’t use those daily. I take along with me a make-up pouch which has a lipstick, compact powder, lip balm and a mirror. It’s honestly never used because the makeup I use tend to not wear off or move around.
I apply my complexion products with a beauty blender and buffer brush, cheek products with a slanted blush brush and everything else is straight from the tube.
It may sound like a bit much but this simple morning makeup routine takes me all of 10 minutes. No fuss!
