If you didn’t know me better you’d think that this was my first trip ever, just because I’ve talked about it so much. But you need to understand, this was a much, much needed getaway. You know sometimes you just need to escape everyday life just for a moment? Well that’s what traveling does for me. It allows me to have my cake and eat it too.
So to get into it, Sean and I had our one year wedding anniversary in April and we decided that instead of gifts and dinner and parties, we’d celebrate each anniversary with a trip, even if it’s the only trip we take for the year. This one came a little late but better late than never yeah?
We chose somewhere close to home that wouldn’t cost us a lot or take too much time in transit. Miami was three hours away with good weather and a carefree mentality. Perfect!
It’s the first time either of us have been to Miami, and would we go again? Meh. Maybe for another weekend if we just need some alone time together but it’s definitely one of those places you see once and you’re set for life. Lol.
We went to South Beach and man, is that place full of young, beautiful, vibrant bodies. OMG. Never have I ever felt as old on a trip. Lol. It’s definitely party and beach central, but being the almost 34 year old woman who can barely stay up past 9pm that I am, you damn well know I was way out of my element.
It was just boobs and thongs and convertibles blasting loud music and, just, a lot! LMAO! You’d think living on an island I’d be used to this but trust me, we are hella conservative over here.
Anyway, our weekend was well spent frolicking, eating, lounging, walking and ogling. It was luxurious!
We didn’t take too many photos but I thought I’d share the ones we really love.
We ventured off the tourist path a bit and wandered into some nearby neighborhoods and they were absolutely beautiful. Everything was so lush and green. Everyone had trees and plants in their yards with tree lined covered streets. I kept telling Sean that this is the neighborhood I’d like to retire in. It was pretty much suburb just on the cusp of the city. Best of both worlds if you ask me.
We had lots of fun with the food! Notable mentions, The Big Pink (lots of bang for your buck but stay away if you hate greasy food), CVI.CHE 105 (delicious Peruvian food with superb service), Sugar Cane Raw Bar and Grill (had a mean burger), Crema Gourmet Espresso Bar (THE richest hot chocolate 2nd only to Angelina’s in Paris). I did have the good ole Starbucks ‘cus I’m addicted to the hot white chocolate mocha and the coffee cake (heaven!).
We stayed at The Gale South Beach/Kiskades which reminded me of our time in Paris. Pretty small boutique hotel a modern interior. Best part were those heated toilet seats. Yes please!
Wynwood Walls are pretty cool if you ask me! The neighborhood could do with some sprucing up but once you’re inside those walls you can get lost in them!
We spent most of our time walking (we’re those types of tourists), shopping, eating and day dreaming, and we would not have it any other way. We had the beach, spa day and pool on the agenda but that did NOT happen. Maybe next time?
Have you ever been to Miami? South Beach in particular? Did you like it?
…thanks for stopping by!
